This memorial website was created to remember Shona Christine Williams who was born in Peoria, Illinois on May 10, 1973 and passed away on October 8, 2008. She will live forever in our memories and hearts.

Shona Christine Williams, 35, of Peoria, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at home, after a lifelong, courageous battle with diabetes.

She was born in Peoria on May 10, 1973, daughter of Carol A. Williams of Peoria and Aaron “Smiley” Kendrick of Terry, MS.

Shona is also survived by her aunts, Carla Doubet of Summerville, SC and Jayne (Tom) Baker of Peoria Heights; cousins, Amanda (Joe) Bignall of Peoria, Nick Baker of Peoria and Sarah (Erik) Hackett of Peoria Heights; second cousin, Alexandria Bignall at home; and her extended family, including Nadine Sturdivant, Cheryl O’Brien, Sheri Lamie, Chanelle Bates and Shemiah, Chicon, John, Dan and Don Grant.

She enjoyed planting flowers, spending time with her family and friends, collecting keepsakes and mementos from family and friends and listening to music. She loved Gospel, Rhythm and Blues and ballads.

Shona graduated from East Peoria High School in 1992 and was involved in their basketball and chorus programs. During high school, she began her career with Hardee’s in East Peoria.

After graduating high school, she continued her education through classes at Illinois Central College and advanced into management with Hardee’s in both East Peoria and Peoria.

Shona stepped down from her position with Hardee’s in 1997, because of her medical challenges. She successfully received a kidney transplant in September of 2003 and received a pancreas transplant in September of 2008.

During the last several months of her life, she enjoyed worshiping with her friends at the Northwoods Community Church in Peoria.

She never met a stranger and welcomed everyone into her life. Even though her illness kept her homebound, she enjoyed celebrating life and had a smile that would light up a room. Her family is proud of the inner strength she displayed while enduring her serious medical issues.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2008, at Clary Funeral Home in Peoria, with Pastor Kirk Moser officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded, following services.

Memorial contributions may be made in Shona’s memory to the American Diabetes Association.

I have so many great memories of Shona I'm not sure where to start. Growing up she was always there when I needed someone to talk to who understood what I was going through and did not judge. I remember her calling me all the time just to see how I was doing and she was always getting things in order. She taught me how to drive, fight, swim, play sports, and love. I loved her very much and I'm going to miss her very much and I'll always remember all the good times. God had bigger plans for you and I'll never forget ya. I love you Aunt Shona, your in heaven now. One day we'll meet again and you'll forever be apart of me.

My memory of Shona was she made me smile and she liked my jokes. She was one of the most beautiful woman I have ever met. In my 35 yrs. I have never met anyone who has brought so much joy in such a short time as Shona did. Shona you will be missed and I love you. See you when I get there.

I met Shona in High School and we quickly became great friends. Shona was the type of girl that was there for you no matter what and even if she was having a hard time you came first.  Her beautiful eyes and cute lil freckles could make anybody smile! I have alot of fond memories of me and Shona, that will always be kept close to my heart. I will miss you girl! Until we meet again!
